History Corner

Founded in 1898 by a group of visionary women (including Annie Maybeck), the Hillside Club worked to preserve the natural beauty of Berkeley's hills and promote thoughtful hillside architecture.

The current clubhouse, designed by John White (brother of architect John White), became a City of Berkeley Landmark in 2004. After surviving the 1923 Berkeley Fire, the club continues to host cultural events, concerts, and community gatherings.
